What is Vivlodex?

Vivlodex is the brand name of a form of the drug meloxicam, a strong nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) prescribed commonly to help patients with osteoarthritis. The US Food and Drug Administration has warned that NSAIDs can increase the chance of heart attack or stroke, as well as gastrointestinal problems, and that risk rises with higher doses; Vivlodex is a capsule that contains an extremely fine form of meloxicam particles, which is believed to be a more effective version of a lower NSAID dose. Vivlodex may be prescribed as one or two 5 mg capsules a day. Side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, and stomach upset. Vivlodex, like other NSAIDs, should be avoided by pregnant women, especially those in late pregnancy.
