Will getting a wire dental retainer hurt?

Getting a wire dental retainer does not hurt. The orthodontist usually uses a thin piece of twisted, flexible wire, cut to fit behind your teeth. The orthodontist will clean and dry the teeth before using dental cement to fix the wire in place. Sometimes an orthodontist uses small rubber spacers in between the teeth while putting the wire in place. This can sometimes be a little uncomfortable, but the spacers are taken out after the wire is affixed and are only in place for a half an hour or so.
