What are orthodontics and orthodontic treatment?

Dante A. Gonzales, DMD
Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics
Orthodontics is the oldest specialty of dentistry. Its focus is on correcting misaligned teeth and jaws in order to establish a better, more functional bite. In addition, orthodontics can provide a more esthetically pleasing smile. Orthodontists train for 2-3 years beyond dental school. The orthodontic training focuses on the many different types of malocclusions and the different appliances that an orthodontist can use to help correct them and align the teeth.
