What reasons would my child avoid wearing a wire dental retainer?

Your child can't avoid wearing a wire dental retainer  because it's glued onto the teeth with a bonding agent. Your child will wear the retainer when eating, drinking, and sleeping, and is considered a permanent appliance in your child’s mouth. While it may take a little while for your child to adjust to having a small metal wire behind her teeth, it’s a much easier adjustment than wearing braces.
