Insurance companies pay for the malocclusion corrected, not the tool used to do it. Your orthodontist can use what ever he believes is in your best interest including (but not limited to...) metal braces, clear braces, aligners, growth modification appliances, or retainers. As long as you have orthodontic insurance and your orthodontist diagnoses that a covered problem exists, your insurance should pay.
Insurance coverage for braces can vary. The best way to find out what is covered under your insurance plan is to contact your insurance company. Be sure to get this information in writing. Consider working with your dentist and/or orthodontist to be certain you understand your payment obligations.
