What should I know about gatifloxacin before taking it?

Before you take gatifloxacin, you should know that you will have to drink extra fluids while taking this medication. If you are self administering the injection form of gatifloxacin at home, you should not use if vial of medicine contains any particles or is discolored.

Even if you feel better after a few days after gatifloxacin, it is required for you take all of the medication that is prescribed to you by your doctor. Gatifloxacin is not helpful in treating colds. You should only use this medication if it is prescribed to treat an infection.

This medication can also cause drowsiness. Until you know how you react while taking this medication, it is advised that you do not drive or operate any machinery. Gatifloxacin tablets and injection were removed from the market in the United States in 2006.
