Are there any side effects of carboxymethylcellulose eye drops?

If you use artificial tear products that contain carboxymethylcellulose, your vision may be blurry for a little while after you instill the drops in your eyes. Don't drive or do any other hazardous activities while your vision is affected. Carboxymethylcellulose can cause eye pain, irritation or redness or lingering vision changes. If you notice these or any other side effects, talk to your doctor at once. An allergic reaction to this drug is possible. Seek emergency care for facial swelling, breathing difficulties, hives or itchy rash.
