What is the maximum daily dosage for zinc sulfate?

There is no well-established maximum daily dose for zinc sulfate. The recommended daily dosage for zinc sulfate hinges upon a variety of factors. This is why you should discuss your dosage with your doctor before you begin taking zinc sulfate. Typically, the recommended dietary allowance for this product increases with age. Speak with your health care provider about recommended daily doses of zinc sulfate for children under the age of 19. For the recommended dietary allowance for those that are 19 and over, men should typically recieve 11 (mg.) milligrams per day, women: 8 mg./day, women who are pregnant: 11 mg./day, and those who are breastfeeding: 12 mg./day. It is usually taken on an empty stomach -- either one hour before a meal or two to three hours after eating. However, if zinc sulfate upsets your stomach, you should take it with a full glass of water or with food.

Your dosage will also depend on how much zinc you are already getting in your diet. Foods that contain zinc -- like lean red meats, seafood, peas and beans -- may provide too much zinc when paired with your supplement. Foods containing calcium or phosphorous may inhibit the absorption of zinc. These foods include cheese, soft drinks, milk, ice cream, yogurt, beans, lentils, peas, nuts, beer, peanut butter and hot cocoa.
