How does Pataday treat allergic conjunctivitis?

Stacy Wiegman, PharmD
Pharmacy Specialist

Depending on your symptoms, you may wish to use Pataday in addition to other allergy medications. Taking Pataday in addition to your regular medication may improve your allergy symptoms.

Pataday is an eye drop with the active ingredient olopatadine. When your body is exposed to an allergen, your body responds by releasing histamines. Histamines attach to cells in your body, causing them to swell and release fluid. This response causes eyes to become red, itchy and watery. Antihistamines like Pataday prevent histamines from attaching to cells, relieving these symptoms. When used regularly, Pataday can prevent itchy, red and watery eyes.
