Who should not take Rybix ODT?

The pain medication Rybix ODT (tramadol) is not for everyone. Women who are breastfeeding shouldn't take it, because it passes into breast milk and could make a nursing infant sick. Rybix ODT should only be used by a pregnant woman if her doctor thinks the benefits of taking it outweigh the potential risks to the developing fetus. Doctors also use caution when prescribing Rybix ODT to people who:
  • experience seizures
  • take certain medications, especially antidepressants
  • may be suicidal
  • have certain allergies or PKU (phenylketonuria )
  • have a history of addiction to drugs or alcohol
  • have had kidney or liver disease or have had intracranial pressure or a head injury
Rybix ODT is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in children under age 17.
