What should I do with leftover Dilaudid?

If you no longer need Dilaudid (hydromorphone) and have extra tablets, flush the leftovers down the toilet. Dilaudid is a pain reliever that belongs to a larger group of medications called opioid analgesics. These drugs provide important pain relief, but they are also sought by drug abusers. What's more, Dilaudid and similar drugs could cause serious harm if they fell into the hands of a child. Flushing unused pills will eliminate the risks associated with having leftovers around the house.
