What should I avoid while taking Dilaudid?

Taking Dilaudid (hydromorphone) could make you feel drowsy, so it's a good idea to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how this medication affects you. Drinking alcohol while taking Dilaudid is off-limits, since it can exaggerate drowsiness and cause more serious problems, such as difficulty breathing. In extreme cases, combining Dilaudid and alcohol could induce potentially fatal respiratory problems. If you currently take any medications, list them for your doctor before taking Dilaudid. Some over-the-counter and prescription medications can interact with Dilaudid and cause harmful side effects.
