What should I avoid while taking morphine?

While taking morphine, you should avoid products that contain alcohol. Ingesting alcohol with morphine can increase the more severe side effects of morphine and may result in death.

Never share or allow others to use your morphine. It is highly addictive and has the potential for abuse, so avoid leaving your prescription in a place where others may be tempted to use it.

Avoid taking more morphine than prescribed. Alert your doctor if the prescribed dose is no longer effectively relieving your pain. Even if you begin to feel better, do not stop taking morphine without first consulting your doctor. Abruptly discontinuing the use of morphine may result in severe withdrawal.
