What should I avoid while taking Butrans?

While you are using Butrans, a seven-day opioid skin patch that treats moderate to severe chronic pain, you should avoid alcohol. You should also avoid other medications, such as sleeping pills, that can depress your central nervous system (unless your doctor prescribes them). You should also stay away from alcohol, which does the same thing.

Avoid any source of heat to your skin, such as a heating pad, electric blanket, heat lamp, sauna, hot tub or heated water bed; this can cause an increase in the absorption of the active ingredient, which can be dangerous or even deadly. Don't use soap or anything else on the area of skin where the patch is; clean it with water only.
