Can I use Dilaudid if I am breastfeeding?

Talk to your doctor before taking Dilaudid (hydromorphone) if you're breastfeeding. Doctors prescribe Dilaudid to treat moderate to severe pain. Small concentrations of Dilaudid have been detected in the breast milk of nursing mothers who use this medication. That could cause a newborn who's nursing to develop breathing problems. Your doctor will determine whether the benefits of Dilaudid outweigh the potential risk to a breastfeeding infant.
