Who should not take morphine sustained release?

Individuals with addictions to drugs or alcohol should not use morphine sustained release. If you have not been prescribed this medication, do not take it. Some individuals who are using similar opioid medications may not be able to take morphine SR unless they know their body can tolerate it. This medication should not be used by individuals who have taken other medications that cause drowsiness. Some individuals who are older, have a breathing problem or are in a weakened state may not be able to use morphine sustained release because it may cause respiratory depression (dangerously slow breathing). Do not use this narcotic pain reliever if you have an intestinal blockage or if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. Individuals with brain injuries should avoid using morphine sustained release.
