Who should not take methadone hydrochloride oral concentrate?

If you have ever had an allergic reaction to methadone hydrochloride or to any narcotic medication, you should not use methadone hydrochloride oral concentrate. People with asthma or other conditions that cause poor lung function (such as COPD) should not take methadone hydrochloride oral concentrate, nor should people who have a paralytic ileus. Children should not take methadone hydrochloride oral concentrate. Women who are pregnant or nursing should talk to their doctors about the benefits versus the risks of taking methadone hydrochloride oral concentrate, as it is unknown whether this medication will harm a fetus or nursing infant.
