Take Subutex (buprenorphine) exactly as your doctor directs to treat addiction to opioids, including heroin, morphine and other narcotic painkillers. Do not take more or less Subutex or take it more or less frequently than prescribed.
Allow Subutex tablets to dissolve under your tongue, which may take two minutes or more. If your dose includes more than one tablet, take all the tablets at the same time or two at a time until you've taken them all. Do not talk while the tablet is dissolving, and do not chew or swallow the tablet. Never inject Subutex.
Do not stop taking Subutex suddenly or without talking to your doctor. Abruptly stopping Subutex may cause withdrawal symptoms. When you're ready to stop taking Subutex, your doctor can reduce your dose gradually to help you go off the drug safely.
