Dilaudid-HP can interact with other medications, so talk to your doctor about any other medicines you are using. You should not use any medicine containing hydromorphone in conjunction with muscle relaxers, sedatives or other narcotic pain relievers. Doing so can increase your risk of respiratory depression, a life-threatening condition that slows down breathing too much. If you use phenothiazines, you may not be able to use this medication because the combination may cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Drugs such as pentazocine can cause Dilaudid-HP not to work as well, and may cause you to experience withdrawal symptoms.
