Can I use Exalgo if I am taking pentazocine?

If you're taking pentazocine (Talwin, Talacen) you should not also take Exalgo (hydromorphone). Both drugs are prescribed to relieve pain and affect the same pain receptors in the brain. When taken together, pentazocine can cause Exalgo to be less effective. Make sure your doctor knows that you're on pentazocine if he or she wants to prescribe Exalgo.
