Can I use Dilaudid if I am taking pentazocine?

Pentazocine (Talwin) may interfere with Dilaudid (hydromorphone), so be careful about taking the two drugs together. Both are painkillers, but they work in different ways. Pentazocine may block the activity of Dilaudid, which would make the latter drug less effective as a pain reliever. If you're taking pentazocine, tell a doctor if he or she prescribes Dilaudid.
