Can I use Fentora if I take a medication for mental illness?

You should be extremely careful about combining a medication for mental illness and Fentora (fentanyl), a morphine-like drug for breakthrough cancer pain. Some drugs for mental illness can dangerously interact with Fentora, increasing the likelihood that you'll experience serious side effects, including a drop in blood pressure, excessive sleepiness, depressed breathing, even coma and death. Before you start taking Fentora, talk with your doctor about starting or continuing your use of any of the following types of medicines:
  • anti-anxiety drugs
  • antidepressants
  • antipsychotic drugs
  • sedatives
  • tranquilizers
