Can I use Dilaudid if I have a history of prostate problems?

Taking the pain medication Dilaudid (hydromorphone) could worsen symptoms of certain prostate problems. One potential side effect that Dilaudid may cause is difficulty urinating -- also the prime symptom of a condition called prostatic hypertrophy, better known as an enlarged prostate. If you have an enlarged prostate that's causing urinary problems, taking Dilaudid could make matters worse. Tell your doctor about any past or current problems you've had with urinating before taking Dilaudid.
