Can I use Actiq if I am taking rifampin?

You may be able to use Actiq if you are taking rifampin (brand names: Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifamate), but tell your doctor. Actiq is an opiate lozenge used to treat breakthrough cancer pain. Rifampin is a medication used to treat tuberculosis and other infections. Using Actiq while taking rifampin can reduce Actiq's ability to control your pain. When your doctor knows that you're taking rifampin—along with every other medication or supplement you take—he or she can carefully monitor you for these effects.
