How is onycholysis related to skin diseases?

Onycholysis is often caused by skin diseases like psoriasis. When the skin becomes inflamed or swollen beneath the nail, the nail lifts off. When your doctor is diagnosing onycholysis, he or she may take a sample of the skin below the nail to test for skin disease, although many, like psoriasis, are diagnosed by visual inspection.
