How is old age related to obesity?

Recently, the number of elderly people with obesity has been increasing in the United States. There are several reasons for this increase, including inactivity because of problems like arthritis, a loss of muscle mass, a slower metabolism, and more weight in the stomach area. Obesity in older people is problematic because of complications such as diabetes, cancer, and heart failure and because it is more difficult for the elderly to lose weight.
