Who should not receive KCl in NS?

If you have an allergy or sensitivity to potassium or any other ingredient in KCl in NS, you should not receive it. This solution should be used with great care or not at all in people with kidney problems or failure, congestive heart failure, high blood volume, a urinary tract obstruction, sodium retention with edema, potassium retention or high blood potassium levels. KCl in NS should be used in infants and children with caution. Pregnant women should discuss the risks with their doctor before use.
