What are the side effects of phosphate tablets?

If you are taking phosphate tablets and you experience the following side effects, make sure to get help right away. These side effects include:

  • signs of allergic reaction, including swelling, trouble breathing, itching, rash or hives, tightness of the chest
  • dark urine
  • unusual bleeding or blistering
  • fatigue and weakness that is not usual
  • fast, irregular heartbeat

Some side effects of phosphate tablets are not severe. If you experience any of these side effects, and they bother you, talk to your doctor. However, you should understand that these side effects are common. They include stomach upset, cramps, and vomiting.
