Are medical nutrition products safe for gastrointestinal disorders?

Medical nutrition therapy can benefit a number of gastrointestinal disorders including:
  • Chronic diarrhea, nausea or constipation
  • Eosinophilic disorders in your digestive system, in which your body overproduces a certain type of white blood cell
  • Fat intolerance or steatorrhea (the presence of excess fat in feces)
  • Gastric bypass surgery
  • Gluten intolerance
  • Inflammatory bowel disease, including both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Malabsorption of nutrients
  • Severe food allergies
  • Short bowel syndrome
If you have a condition in which you cannot process glucose (sugars), such as diabetes, ask your doctor before you start a treatment that involves medical nutrition therapy.
