Carnitine, especially acetyl-L-carnitine, can occasionally cause side effects. These may include agitation, body odor, increased appetite, nausea, skin rash and vomiting. If you take large doses of carnitine, you may have diarrhea. However, side effects are not common. Carnitine can actually help limit side effects from other drugs.
