What is tolmetin?

Tolmetin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drug. It is used to reduce the pain, inflammation and stiffness associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. It is also indicated for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It comes in tablet or capsule form. Tolmetin blocks the enzyme cyclooxygenase, resulting in lower concentrations of prostaglandins. As a consequence, the symptoms tolmetin can reduce include pain, inflammation, stiffness and swelling. The brand name for tolmetin is Tolectin.
