Commonly sold over-the-counter as Advil PM, the combination drug ibuprofen-diphenhydramine is used to treat minor pain that can cause sleeplessness. Ibuprofen blocks substances in the body that may produce inflammation and cause pain. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that acts on the brain to cause drowsiness.
