Although diclofenac topical gel usually does not enter the bloodstream, you should avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs, such as diclofenac, carry some serious cardiovascular risks, as well as a risk of stomach bleeding and other serious gastrointestinal damage. These risks may be increased by also taking blood thinning medications (such as warfarin), aspirin or corticosteroids. Also, tell your doctor before using diclofenac topical gel if you take lithium, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, diuretics or antibiotics, because these medications can interact with diclofenac topical gel. Diclofenac also increases sun sensitivity, so avoid sun exposure when using the gel. Talk to your doctor before using any other topical products while using diclofenac.
