What should I avoid while using salicylic acid?

To avoid skin irritation, you should avoid other cleansers and specific cosmetics while using salicylic acid. The treated area may become extremely irritated if salicylic acid is applied with other acne treatments, such as benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, sulfur drugs or exfoliating scrubs. Avoid applying alcohol-based products or medicated cosmetics to the skin during salicylic acid treatment. Unless your doctor instructs you otherwise, avoid covering the treated area, because this can increase the absorption of the medication.
