What is stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma?

Stage 4 non-Hodgkin (or Hodgkin's) lymphoma is a term applied to certain diagnoses of a type of cancer that develops in the lymph system. Doctors assign stages to a lymphoma diagnosis based on how many tumors are found, and how widespread they are in the body. Stage 4 lymphoma describes the most widespread stage of the disease, with cancerous cells found in lymph nodes throughout the body as well as at least one of: a major organ or tissue, the blood stream, or bone marrow.
