Besides pain, why might a nerve block injection be recommended?

Donna Hill Howes, RN
Family Practitioner

Nerve block injections are sometimes used by doctors to learn more about the cause or location of a person's pain. These are called diagnostic nerve blocks. They can help your doctor select the best treatments for your type of pain. Injections are not recommended as the only treatment for pain. They should be part of an ongoing treatment plan, along with exercise, physical and occupational therapy, and medications.
