What is a split-thickness skin graft (STSG)?

A split-thickness skin graft (STSG) is a graft where just a few layers of outer skin are transplanted. A full-thickness skin graft is a graft involving the entire layer of the dermis. These are most often used for burn patients. There is usually permanent scarring that is noticeable at the grafted sites.
