Is Tegretol an effective treatment for Type 2 trigeminal neuralgia?

With Type 2 trigeminal neuralgia, the chance of dramatic pain relief from Tegretol is not 90%. It's significantly less -- 50% or 60%. We often find a vein causing pressure on the nerve. That can be moved away. There may be other underlying causes here. Type 2 may be associated with very longstanding pressure on the nerve and permanent injury. I've seen cases where the nerve itself was grayish and shrunken, and I suspect that some disorder had affected the nerve, possibly a viral infection.
