Can neuralgia be prevented?

Most types of neuralgia cannot be prevented because they are caused by factors completely out of your control. However, when it comes to postherpetic neuralgia you may be able to prevent it by getting vaccinated for shingles. You'll also lower your chances of developing postherpetic neuralgia if you get treated for shingles right away. Treating other conditions like diabetes and renal insufficiency might help prevent certain types of neuralgia as well.
