Herbal medicines have side effects just like prescription drugs. They can interact with other herbs or drugs and cause side effects. You should let all of your health care practitioners, including your pharmacist, know what supplements you are taking.

Absolutely. Just like prescription drugs, over the counter and natural supplements can cause side effects. Side effects can be due to patient factors such as intolerance, allergies, contraindications; high dose, drug interactions, etc. Most people assume that natural supplements lack side effects because it is "natural" forgetting that many drugs in the market are made from natural sources. Always inform your doctor, nurse and/or pharmacist of your medications including herbals and natural supplements. A pharmacist review can alleviate major drug related problems
