How do decongestants interact with other medications?

Donna Hill Howes, RN
Family Practitioner

If you are taking linezolid, nasal decongestants can lead to side effects and should be avoided.

If you are taking a urinary alkalinizer, pseudoephedrine may not be a good option for you.

If you are taking an MAO inhibitor you should not take a decongestant; you should avoid decongestants for at least 2 weeks after stopping MAO inhibitors.
