Is my child at greater risk of getting infections due to taking Symbicort?

Symbicort contains a steroid called budesonide. Taking a steroid can lower your child’s ability to fight off infections. So, when taking Symbicort, your child should wash his or her hands often. It is important to stay away from people who are sick (especially those with chicken pox or the measles) or have infections.

Tell your child's doctor right away if he or she has been around someone who has chicken pox or the measles.
