Older adults experience a higher rate of incidence of nail disorders than younger adults or children. This is often because the likelihood of experiencing a nail disorder increases as we age. Age tends to make our nails weaker, we tend to have more illnesses that are related to nail disorders when we are older, and we take more medications that can cause nail disorders. As we age, we are also more susceptible to fungal nail infections; in fact, approximately 50 percent of all nail disorders are caused by infection.
