How does nail polish affect nail disorders?

Nail polish affects some nail disorders by causing the nail to be brittle and peel. The constant application of nail polish has a similar affect to placing your hands in water. The constant removal of the polish with acidic polish remover can also weaken the nail.

Nail polish can also be used to stop nail biting. Certain polishes have a bitter taste that deters people from sticking their fingers in their mouth. A doctor may suggest that you take the vitamin biotin. You may also try using a nail polish that contains proteins to strengthen the nail.
