Can curvature myopia cause blindness?

Severe cases of curvature myopia can cause blindness. Nearsightedness that goes untreated can lead to eye complications such as glaucoma (eye disease) and retinal detachment. Myopia related to having a thin retina increases the risk for retinal tears or retinal detachment. Immediate medical attention is needed if the retina tears or detaches to prevent blindness. Symptoms of retinal detachment include seeing showers of dark spots, flashes or floaters.
