Who should not take azathioprine?

Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, should not take azathioprine. Breastfeeding women  also should not take azathioprine. People who are allergic to azathioprine, or any components of azathioprine, should not take the drug. In addition, those who have liver disease, a bacterial, viral or fungal infection or who have recently received chemotherapy, may need to have some tests prior to taking azathioprine or have their dose adjusted.
