Colcrys is the brand name for the drug colchicine. It is used to reduce pain and swelling caused by gout in adults and adolescents 16 years of age and older. Colcrys, in a class of drugs called antigout medications, works by reducing the inflammatory response to uric acid crystal accumulation in the joints. Not a permanent cure for gout, Colcrys may prevent future outbreaks. The drug is also used to treat pain from familial Mediterranean fever in adults and children older than four years of age. In this condition, Colcrys reduces the amount of the pain-triggering protein amyloid A that collects in the body.
