What are the side effects of febuxostat?

You're likely to have a temporary flare-up of gout when you start taking febuxostat, so talk to your doctor about how to manage your pain during this initial period. Side effects may include dizziness, rash, nausea, fever and chills, dry mouth, blurry vision and joint and muscle pain. Seek emergency help, call 911, if you experience serious side effects such as chest pain, numbness or weakness, or sudden headache or confusion. Call your doctor right away if you experience these serious side effects: paleness or jaundice, hearing problems, changes in behavior or aggressive thoughts, clay-colored stools or urinary changes.
