Which medications and foods can interact with Norgesic?

Because Norgesic (aspirin-caffeine-orphenadrine) can interact with certain other medications, be sure to tell your doctor if you are using other prescription or nonprescription drugs or herbal supplements. Your doctor may need to adjust your Norgesic dosage or provide special monitoring if you are taking any of the following: blood thinners, such as warfarin (Coumadin) or heparin; nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil); other salicylates, such as aspirin, choline salicylate, magnesium salicylate; ACE inhibitors; acetazolamide; certain anti-Parkinson's medications (such as benztropine); bisphosphonate medications; cimetidine; corticosteroids (such as prednisone); diabetes medications; certain gout medications; ginkgo biloba; lithium; methotrexate; and potassium supplements.

To avoid severe interactions, Norgesic should not be used with mifepristone, pramlintide or nasal (inhaled) flu vaccine.

The following medications can increase dizziness or drowsiness caused by Norgesic -- sometimes even leading to unconsciousness and death: antihistamines, antidepressants, sedatives for insomnia, anxiety medications, muscle relaxers, other pain medications (such as codeine), psychiatric medications and certain anti-seizure medications (such as carbamazepine). Drinking alcohol while taking Norgesic may increase drowsiness.

Check labels on all your medications (including diet aids or cough products), since they can contain aspirin, caffeine, or ingredients that can also promote drowsiness. Also note that some drinks (such as soda, coffee, tea) contain caffeine; it is advisable to ask your doctor or pharmacist about combining these with Norgesic.
