Before taking colchicine tablets tell your doctor about all allergies to food or medications and any medical conditions, including kidney and liver problems, bowel disease or stomach ulcers, nerve or muscle conditions and blood disorders. Sperm production can be adversely affected when using colchicine. The effectiveness of colchicine may decrease with alcohol use. Preventive treatment usually causes fewer side effects than large doses of treatment during attacks of gout.
